Sitting On A Camp. Alcona County, 2006. 24 x 30 in, acrylic on canvas. CO Warren MacNeill had a tip that there were night-shooters working out of an Alcona County camp and that they were baiting -- in violation of the ban for that area. We located the camp and set up to observe it. Several times lights came on and went out over the bait pile, but no shots were taken and after three hours in sleet and snow, we pull away quietly. Warren went back later to catch them in the act of shooting with lights at night over bait. CO's call such surveillance "sitting on a camp." The painting tries to capture the strange perspective of a CO sitting in the dark, usually alone.
