Tree-Bones & Brookies, Courtesy of Beavers. Keeweenaw County, 2006. 30 x 20 in, acrylic on half-inch foam board. Beavers can back up a stream into small ponds that sometimes harbor significant brook trout. These are most productive in the first year or two and some trout-hunters specialize in reading top maps just trying to locate new beaver ponds. A lot of work for small inch fish! Scenes such as this were the inspiration for one of my character’s names –the former conservation officer, turned vice cop in Detroit who loves to fish for brook trout, Luticious Treebone.
