A Moment for Bill Williams

Dave and his boys two miles down the ferrous river
family time

Struggling alone to see reality of imagination
faulty senses

I quickly put down a small  orange trout
clumsy casts

Moving Water  the color of burnished rust
murky minded

Started upstream against current
awkward wader

Heard a barking snort behind a bank of tags
spooked deer

Sound fading loudly from my left
sent by me.

Came to a rocky stretch with current
poor balance

Went to shore to sit, pulled open the tag curtain
yellow wolf eyes

Close as my lover in the king's bed
breath-taking

Watched the animal ghost silently away
Shaking

Sat on the bank to tie on a new fly
unsure hands

Waded back downstream, wind on my back
shit-eating grin

Not me who spooked the deer
but wolves

Their hunt interrupted
by my bad
