Left Bank, Arcadia Creek
[Kalamazoo, January 19, 2011]

Too-Tall Jesus walked by this morning,
Checking dustbins for redeemable cans,
Metaphor for Christian views of life,
Jesus oblivious to earnest men
With back packs, lugging black portfolios,
Clear plastic bins bearing art implements,
Hair-ironed nubiles with fringed boots, pierced
Body parts, form-clinging, scarlet leggings,
All streaming into classrooms with easels
Circled like schooners on black-night prairies,
Robed nude model stretching cat-like,
Loosening muscles for poses to stun
Porn addicts of all shapes and color hues,
Students focused solely on the seeing
All forms, shapes, angles, absent soul or sex,
Woman as object, a reality
That fails to register with feminists
Perfecting techniques not philosophies,
The sidewalks are made of bricks on their ends,
Red not yellow, the true paths here in minds
Not installed by civil engineers.
